Within the framework of the project European Space University for Earth and Humanity (UNIVERSEH), cultural studies aspects of the preoccupation with exocultures are to be examined. On the one hand, the course deals with the narratives at the interface of factuality and fictionality that report on the encounter between humans and aliens.
What differences are there between entertaining science fiction and politically explosive conspiracy ideologies that refer to very similar plots?
On the other hand, we will compare which ideas of possible contact with exocultures shape public and private space programmes. The aim is to determine the discursive function that references to exocultures have in our society.
